We need a written history of KAS. Please submit it to President Jim Day. In 2003 and 2004 while I still lived in Phoenix, I often drove over the hill to Merwin and Evelyn's for lunch. I have listened to Merwin for many hours, and I've not heard the same story twice. He sent me the attached letter when he could still see his computer. I share it now, Oct 2005, having just found it in one of the many files I have. Peter Lauridsen ETERNAL LOVE and ETERNAL LIFE Photographs here were taken by Frank P. Lauridsen during his years as Teacher and Boy Scout Leader at The Kuling American School. Frank left KAS for SAS, then traveled through Mongolia, Siberia, Eastern Russia, emerging through Europe seeing first hand Adolph Hitler beginning to stir up the German people. Upon his return to the United States, he toured the country taking photographs which he turned into slides for his lectures and stories. My belief is he would have never left China if the Japanese hadn't invaded. One of the last picture he took in Shanghi was a Japanese Tank surrounded by rifle carrying soldiers. After earning his second Masters Degree from Occidental College, he taught at Glendale High School in California. He married Cora Luella Burt, and raised 5 children. I can remember the love in his voice when he clicked from slide to slide reminiscing and seeing more than just the images on the screen. I know the years at KAS were the high point of his life. Peter Burt Lauridsen I wrote a poem about his Love and his moustache soon after he died, about the same time I met Merwin. |
